I don’t pay any attention to the click-bait YouTubers whose sole existence is to break things and then feign shock. I’ve been using iPads as part of my professional work flow since I picked up the very first iPad on launch day 14 years ago. I have never had any hardware issues and yes - I use the iPad everyday including heavy global travel.
I did say “part of” my work flow, however. I don’t think the iPad (my preference is for the 11” iPad Pro models) will ever be my sole work device, but that has less to do with iPad OS and more to do with the fact that other than Outlook and Teams, the MS 365 app suite is so drastically different on iPad OS. I rely on Excel for forecasting and analysis and I just can’t get used to working on the iPad OS version. The cloud version is much closer to the desk top / Mac OS version but requires internet access. I like iPad OS. On days where heavy spreadsheet use is not required I often work with my iPad Pro connected to my Apple Studio Display, keyboard, mouse, and trackpad. Sometimes for days at a time especially when working remotely from my home office.
When I travel, the iPad serves as a second screen for my M1 14” MBP and is the only device I take to meetings where I use Apple Notes / Pencil for all of my note taking. The iPad is my preferred device for research. On trade show days the MacBooks stays in the hotel safe and I solely take the iPad and Magic Keyboard. (I have the cellular version - game changer for me!)
I’ve upgraded twice now, first to the M1 and then M2 pro models, based on the hope that WWDC would finally reveal the “magic bullet” to unlock the full capabilities of the amazing hardware but, like you Michael, I am sitting this one out……for now.
